Monika left me a post about the boutis and asked how it is made. The real Boutis is recognized by the qualities of transparency and relief. Two layers of fabric are stitched together using the quilting stitch, and then the work is turned over, and the motifs and channels stuffed with cotton yarn from the reverse. The stuffing produces the shape and relief of the motifs, and when you hold the work up to the light, you can see through it.
Often items are described as boutis, and what is meant are the wholecloth quilted quilts one often sees in French markets. The correct term for those is "piques" and not boutis. See my other posts on the subject for links and more descriptions.
Die Monika hat gefragt, wie ein Boutis gemacht wird. Ein echter Boutis zeichnet sich durch Transparenz und Modellierung aus (hoffentlich ist das das richtige Wort). Zwei Lagen Stoff werden mit dem Quilting-stich zusammengenaeht, die Arbeit wird anschliessend von links mit Baumwollgarn gefuellt. Dieses Fuellen ermoeglicht die Form und Modellierung der Muster, und wenn man die Arbeit gegen das Licht haelt, ist sie durchsichtig.
Es werden oft normale Steppdecken als Boutis beschrieben, aber das ist nicht korrekt. Diese sind "piques" und nicht Boutis. Bitte unter meinen Boutis Posts schauen.
